Can you believe we're already up to night 5 of our 3 months of Knees Calhoon's Countdown to the Election? Tonight's tune is one of Knees' kinder and gentler songs and lacks his usual undercurrent of subversion, but enjoy it while you can. Tomorrow night's song will challenge your musical sensibilities as you've come to expect from Knees' early songs.
Written: Monterey Street,
Farmington NM, spring 1965
Knees wrote this when
he was playing with The Torques, and it was one of his few slow songs. The words
are pretty insipid but the chords are rather interesting, especially for 1965.
Later, in the 70s and 80s in Las Cruces, this was one of the Calhoon Brothers
favorite tunes. Mark Coker, the guitar player, said it reminded him of the Beau
Brummels.
Though skies are grey
my love,
We’ll find a way my
love
And it’s true, I love
you
Though leaves may fall
my love,
I’ll give you all my
love
And it’s true, I love
you.
And you know I need
you, it’s no mystery
And I’ll never leave
you but will always be
Right by your side my
love,
Not a thing to hide my
love
And it’s true, I love
you.

This is really pretty, and interesting musically.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've always liked songs like "I'll Be Back" or "Things We Said Today" by the Beatles which use both the major and minor chords of the key.
