Another song that somehow didn't make the cut at the Las Cruces Inn. Maybe it was written after the 5-year stay at the best job Knees ever had in music. Whenever I write a C&W melody I hope that Ray Charles will do it right eventually.

Knees wracked his brain
to come up with an expression of love that was fresh and meaningful, and more importantly, pragmatic, and this is
what he came up with. You have to admit, very few modern C&W songwriters have
explored this particular tack.
Yes it really happened,
That was really you and
me
Who spent all that time
together,
Lovin so wild and free.
You never said it was
forever,
An then one day you
were gone
There was a big ol
world a-callin
An forever can be so
long.
So don’t play those
halfway games
While your man is out
of town
The world has thrown us
together
And the sun is goin
down.
An don’t tell me how
you love him now
Cuz I’ve heard those
words too
I know from our times
together
You’re just too good to
be true.
Oh I’ve loved a few
since losin you
But no matter how hard
I’ve tried
I’ll never love anyone
so much
That I wouldn’t want
you on the side.
Big Uncle
"You're just too good to be true" is a classic line!
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to "I'll never love anyone so much that I wouldn't want you on the side." Knees would say anything to piss off monogamists.
